Annual Update 2010 - 17th August 2010
Well here goes another sporadic update...
In the last year I've been focussing on building the foundations for my career as a systems engineer in the railway working for Atkins which has seen me firstly relocating to Swindon and currently, at time of writing, in York. I think I'll probably be in the railway for the long-haul and hopefully by the time I retire they'll come to value systems engineering - at the minute there's a lack of enthusiasm about it but here's hoping!
In the world of web/graphics design I haven't really been pursing many opportunities but I did deliver a major project for the St Albans and Harpenden Christian Education Project (STEP) for which I did a full graphics design and implemented a revised version of my home-brew CMS to introduce features including inline editing and drag and drop page layout editing.
As far as last summer's ambitions were concerned I didn't ever start on trying to compete with match.com but I did develop the CMS for tokyoindie.com and should be working on a revamp of this shortly. A CMS was also implemented on the (now ageing) www.northtynesidesteelband.org.uk but Broomhill Forum never took delivery of their site as they never pursued me for it (and never really seemed that enthusiastic about the idea anyway).
In the graphics design realm I produced a CD cover for the latest album by North Tyneside Steelband in March which was well received but no further projects have been undertaken.
The next project is one for my cousin who has launched her own architecture studio in Whitby/Scarborough - www.studiosteadarchitect.co.uk - so I should be delivering this within the next 6 weeks although by then who knows where I'll be living...
